I know exactly who needs to hear this but if you finna post a MLK Jr. quote today make sure you actually read the speech/letter/etc. that quote comes from or leave it in the drafts cause I’m tired of all the misquotes about Civil Rights Leaders true agendas being misconstrued
Let this be the year many of you come to understand he was much more radical and disruptive than you were led to believe
His message wasn’t polar opposite to Malcom X either. They were not enemies. They wanted some of the same things (economic freedoms, protection and unity of my community.) They simply disagreed on some methods about how to achieve those goals.
And both got assassinated because they fought for more than false unity. They fought for reparations. They fought for economic stability. They fought for our rights to be protected under the law. They fought for equity and justice. Because without them real unity remains a dream
I am begging y’all to please read the actual words of any and every Civil Rights Leader you know by name. Start there. Because then you’ll realize their goals were never fully accomplished. The Civil Rights Movement never ended. There’s still work to be done
