THREAD: Mesut Özil’s Arsenal career
Özil signs for Arsenal.

Cue pandemonium. Never before had Arsenal fans celebrated a signing in this manner.
Özil gets an assist on his debut vs Sunderland after just 11 minutes. Arsenal win 3-1.
A few weeks later, the German maestro scores a memorable goal in the UCL vs Napoli.
Özil then bagged his first two PL goals in a home game vs Norwich. A good start to his Arsenal career.
Özil then helped Arsenal reach the semi-finals of the FA Cup with a goal against Everton.
Özil completed an impressive debut season by winning the FA Cup. Arsenal’s first trophy in 9 seasons.

He ended 2013/14 with 7 goals and 13 assists.
Another trophy followed two months later as Özil won the FIFA World Cup with Germany.
The 2014/15 season brought more assists and this one vs Villa will always be remembered as one of his best.
He helped Arsenal win consecutive FA Cup’s after a 4-0 win vs Villa. A third trophy in 12 months for the German.
2015/16 was definitely his best season at Arsenal.

His memorable performance alongside Alexis vs United wherein he scored a free-kick will never be forgotten.
Özil added another important UCL goal vs Bayern to his catalogue a few weeks later. Arsenal won 2-0.
Özil then assisted in 7 consecutive PL games. Record breaking.
His free-kick assist for Danny Welbeck vs Leicester will also live long in the memory given the meaning at the time.
Özil ended 2015/16 with 8 goals and incredibly 20 assists. World class. Arsenal finished 2nd in the league.

19/10/16: Özil gets his first hattrick. Ludogorets the opponents.
That wonder goal vs Ludogorets away. One of the best I’ve ever seen.
12 goals and 13 assists to end 2016/17 season. And a THIRD FA Cup win.
Özil then signed a new deal and became the fastest player to reach 50 assists in PL history after he assisted a goal vs Watford.
After frustration towards the end of Emery’s tenure, Özil was given a new lease of life under his former teammate Arteta.

He scored his final goal in an Arsenal shirt vs Newcastle in Feb 2020.
Özil’s final appearance for Arsenal came at home against West Ham.

Fittingly, he recorded an assist for Lacazette who scored the winner.

The COVID epidemic and subsequent break followed and Özil never played for Arsenal again.
