First of all, it needs to be said that both Gilberto and André Almeida have not been that great for Benfica in recent months. It seems like Benfica are in the market for a right-back, considering that they have been linked with Gonzalo Montiel and Reggie Cannon before.
Now, we need to determine what Montiel would bring to Benfica's side and what he has to offer in the system of Jorge Jesus. A right-back of Benfica, as Liga NOS clubs often play quite defensively, be good in the attacking phase of play while also being capable of defending.

The Argentine right-back has improved a lot in his consistency with his crosses and is very dangerous in the final third.
He is capable of getting past his opponent and is always aware of what is happening in the opposition's box.

Under Gallardo, Gonzalo Montiel has played as a right-back, right wing-back and right-midfielder. He understands his role and offers a lot of variation to the team.

He always makes the right decision when he has the choice to step up or stay in line. Gallardo's tactics allow him to be a positive defender, but he does not blindly step up and is very intelligent in defence.

He is decent in the defensive 1v1's but it must be said that this was a problem for Montiel before. However, he has improved a lot in this aspect.
Concluding, Montiel would be an excellent signing for Benfica and I really hope that it will happen, as I've said before.
