DAVID was declared as a man after God's heart; one of the most beloved human in the Bible. But he was FAR from perfect.
He was a good man, but probably not a good Father. I want us to look at some of his failings and learn as young men.
So, SHALL WE CALL IT A THREAD!?

My man's David was anointed to be King of Israel at 17 (so cute!) by the greatest Prophet in the land then.
From that day, he carried an aura of a King! Baba even went ahead weeks after the anointing to kill a 9-foot Giant and became famous.
Cos thats how starz do!

He was named King by Samuel at 17, but he didn't become King of the whole Israel till he was 30. ( That's a long Super story for another day.)
You see between 17 and 30, he made some little errors here and there that culminated into his failings at parenting.
Let's see them.
You see between 17 and 30, he made some little errors here and there that culminated into his failings at parenting.
Let's see them.
FIRST ERROR: He falls for beautiful women too easily. How did I know this?
After he got famous, Saul made him his P.A, Bàbà saw and fell in love with Merab (Saul's first daughter). Normal shey?
Ok na.
When Merab was given to another man, he fell for Merab's sister, Michal.

You may say sheyb Saul shenked him by giving Merab to another Man, that's why he fell for Mical na?
But I want you to see David's journey from there onwards. Wherever he went during his struggles, he was marrying beautiful women, joining them to his Harem.
He loved peng tins!

In fact, there was one of them called Abigail, a very beautiful rich married woman when David first met her.
After Abigail's husband, Nabal died. David wasted no time and "chyked" the babe. And Abigail (now a widow) agreed to marry a future King.
Who no like better thing?

By the time David was made King of Israel at 30 yrs old, man's was already a husband of 3 different peng wives.
Their names are; Ahinaom of Jezreel, Michal (Saul's daughter) and Abigail (Nabal's widow), With their children of course.
Polygamy on fleek!

As if that was not problematic enough, David was a man of the fields even as King. He barely stayed at home, always going to wars.
And this left a huge space in the lives of his children to the extent that they barely had his Fatherly presence in their lives growing up.
And this left a huge space in the lives of his children to the extent that they barely had his Fatherly presence in their lives growing up.
No wonder they started misbehaving when they began to mature.
First, it was Amnon (David's first born) that went ahead to rape his own half-sister Tamar.
Then, Absalom killed Amnon as a revenge for him raping his own blood sister and he fled to another land after.

THIRD ERROR: David was NEVER seen nor heard rebuking his children for their tantrums as a Father. There's high probability that he left the raising of those kids to their different mothers alone.
By the time David was 40 years, he had gotten Six wives. (Confirm at 2 Samuel 3:2)

You can see he was too soft with the way he handled his children's misbehaviors in how he treated Absalom after he had killed his first son.
After some years passed, David kept asking that Absalom who fled return home. Man totally spared the rod and spoilt his children rotten.

Absalom kúkú did not stop his problem there after he returned home. In fact, he was the one who gave David his biggest problem amidst his children.
Let's see a little of Absalom's wàhálà along the way.
Let's see a little of Absalom's wàhálà along the way.
Absalom is the 2nd born, now heir (cos he killed Amnon).
This young man was the most handsome man of his time. Bible called him flawless from head to foot. He also had a very sharp brain too, like his father.
Before David knew, Absalom rebelled and chased him off the throne.

Absalom didn't stop at that, he also slept with his father's wives and concubines after he had chased him.
Wait a minute! Wives n concubine!?
YES. David loved peng babes remember? Asides those first Six, he married more and also inherited some from Saul. (Don't ask me how plis)

This caused a great Civil War in Israel and people had to choose sides; some for David, some for Absalom.
O badt gan!
After long war, Absalom was killed and David was returned back to Israel as King . You go think say wàhálà don finish bá?
No ó! Wàhálà be like bicycle.

Wait a bit!
I missed one very important event in this story. The birth of Solomon.
Popular story. David was in his pent house ni o, saw a peng babe bathing after she was done with her monthly menstrual cycle and he couldn't get her off his mind.
Bam! Baba knack Batsheba.

Batsheba was Uriah's wife o! David knacked her, she got pregnant. David sha killed Uriah sha.
GOD got angry and punished David o! The baby from that knacking died.
After that, Batsheba (now a widow) got married to David and Solomon was born from legit knacking.

After David got the throne back, he slowed down with marrying peng babes upandan and started ruling from home in Jerusalem. He now had time for his job as a Father.
Other children were all grown, but It was then he had time for teaching Solomon all he could as Father and King.

David at his old age focused on grooming Solomon (in his teenage years) for leadership.
But one of the children David had neglected when he was a young father gave him yet another trouble in his old age.
Ladies and Gentlemen, I give you Adonijah, David's 4th born!

Ladies and Gentlemen, I give you Adonijah, David's 4th born!
Adonijah when he saw that David was nearing 70 now old, just jumped up and went to claim the throne for himself!
How did he do this? He provided himself chariots (G-Wagons) and recruited fifty men to run in front of him. (MOPOL escorts of those days)
Wàhálà don show again!

In fact, this Adonijah's case was so peculiar that it was written that David had NEVER FOR ONCE disciplined him growing up. He had never been checked "What are you doing there?" as a kid.
Adonijah was a proper rich spoilt brat! And he was ready to cause huge problems!

It took Batsheba (now a wise woman) and some other old priest to stop another rebellion that could've caused bloodshed.
Las las, David was forced to quickly declare the young Solomon who he had been grooming as a Father as NOT just Heir to the Throne, but as the King!

That was the long and broad story of King David as a Father to his many children by his many wives.
I am sure you would have picked some few pointers to his mistakes as you read along.
We as young men need to be prepared to be Fathers! We cannot outsource that job to our Wives.

And what does a young man need to be a good Father to his children?
A solid continuous relationship with God is first.
Then there is need to start preparing mentally, psychologically and prayerfully.
Have you been studying and praying for your Unborn children as a young man?

We as young men aslo need help of wise Old men who are successful Fathers to guide us along the way.
Every young man needs a wise, godly old man as a mentor to get counsel from to be good Fathers.
We need to start taking Fatherhood serious. It's not just about making money.

FINALLY:
"Keep your eyes on Jesus, our leader and instructor. He was willing to die a shameful death on the cross because of the joy he knew would be his afterwards; and now he sits in the place of honor by the throne of God."
I wish you all the best brothers.
