White folk should not be celebrating MLK Day. White people ain’t earned the right to celebrate. No “community service” or “volunteering” is enough.

White folk should focus instead on abolition, donating their money and resources + agitating within their social circles today.

Dr. King was assassinated by white folk and our gov’t, despite working to be as respectable as possible. White folks have since sanitized, white washed, corrupted, and fractured his work and legacy, to further absolve themselves of culpability and responsibility. It’s ego.

I resent that today is a “day for “coming together”. I resent that white ppl worked to make MLK Day a hollow shell of political integrity + succeeded.

White ppl participate in/benefit from the de-politicization of Dr. MLK, Jr. This isn’t “unity”, it’s white supremacist violence.

Today is political theater. There’s no other word for it.

A political coup attempt is 2 weeks old. Dems are moving to the center to appease bigots. There is no moral or political justification for y’all to post MLK quotes today.

It’s embarrassing + he’d tell y’all tf off too.

When you got 365 days of agitation, risking your social status/finances/ego/life/safety/security to dismantle white supremacy, anti-racist praxis, race traitor WORK under your belt, we’ll reevaluate your file bby.

But today? Absolutely not. Nope. No.

Because meanwhile YOU are the white moderate MLK was talking about. YOU are the perpetrator and benefactor of what he called the “three evils of society”— racism, capitalism + militarization.

Wars are raged in YOUR name. People are de-housed + forced into poverty in YOUR name.

YOU are the white moderate, you who only go to “peaceful protests”. You who value your own comfort over our lives. You who moved into a “diverse” neighborhood bc the homes were cheaper. You who believe in “good police”. You who risk NOTHING in the name of anti-racism or equity.

Let me clarify something:

There ain’t a single non-Black person who hasn’t benefitted from the work of MLK + Black freedom fighters. The CRM ended in the 70s and is *still* improving your life. Yet solidarity w/Black struggle today is virtually non-existent. Make it make sense?!

Whit people continue to behave as if they can “celebrate” Black struggle without participating themselves in anti-racist action, esp on days like today. It’s irritating and exhausting and is the primary focus of my rage. Rightfully so...

But there is something to be said, too, of NBPOC folks who refuse to move in solidarity w/ Black folks + participate in white suprmacist anti-Blackness.

This is done to the detriment of our lives, because solidarity with us requires the sacrifice of proximity privilege.

Whether it’s Native folks shunning Ferguson/Atl/Baltimore allies at standing rock (positing that our presence brought police/weaponizing racist stereotypes of our “loudness” or sagging pants), or API and latinx folks who appropriate our culture while dehumanizing our bodies...

There is much to account for, to acknowledge, to bear responsibility for, and to atone. There is much to navigate and today ain’t the day to start.

It is disingenuous to celebrate MLK day, Black History Month, etc.

It is a lie to say you love us, you honor us, you stand w/ us.
