League games won by a margin of 1 goal this season:

Manchester United: 6
Everton 6
Manchester City: 4
Liverpool: 4
Leicester City: 4
Tottenham: 3
Aston Villa: 3
Chelsea: 1

This is a major, major, major problem for Chelsea. Reflective of how we compare mentally to our peers.
All our top 4 rivals have the ability to win games even when playing poorly. That is why they have more points than us. We're, with all due respect, a fair-weather team. Our roster lacks the capacity to win games when things don't go right.
Managers are humans, sometimes their ideas go awry. Man United won against West Ham and Southampton (for example) through nothing but sheer will to win. Nothing else really. Same with City against Southampton.

When things have gone wrong for us, have our players stepped up?
When we have a clear qualitative advantage over teams, we win games. The moment we face teams stronger than us (Liverpool) or teams who get in our faces (Everton), we collapse. This is where we need to improve. We're a fair-weather team with no minerals.
Football is played by humans; emotions and perceptions play a big role. When things go wrong, players want to see their leaders take the game to the opponents - technically and otherwise. That's how every good team works.

Do our "leaders" fill that description?
I'm not sure how much of this is down to the manager so I don't want to blame/absolve Lampard here. I did hope his mentality would rub off on our roster but it evidently has not.

I'm also not sure on how to fix this but until we do, we'll not be a serious team.
