Only recently have I realized that I'm probably autistic, and boy howdy is it easy to think "I wish I was diagnosed earlier."

But, early diagnosis can cause harm too. When you're diagnosed early people can assume the limits of your abilities and prevent you from growing (1/3)
When you're diagnosed early, your parents get to choose which skills are important for you to learn, and they likely won't be the ones you think are important,

and you don't get a choice over the way those skills are taught to you (2/3)
So, while realizing I'm probably autistic at 32 isn't easy, I recognize what I want isn't to have been diagnosed earlier.

What I actually want is to live in a world that respects autistic folks, offers options, & supports our actual needs; & to have been offered that support 3/3
