Sadly, academic bullying is far too common: 62% of higher education faculty/staff stated they’d been bullied or witness bullying vs. 37% in the general population.

Any call for compassion in education has to include a demand that bullying be stopped and that university leaders be held accountable for the harm they do. Any call to “start by trusting students” should include a call for institutions to also “start by trusting teachers.”
