Why are relationships between family docs and patients so important in combating online misinformation? A case report: 1/
Patient calls and leaves message that they saw a video about Dr. Simone Gold, with the truth about the COVID-19 vaccine, and thought I might want to look at it, that it would blow my mind. A group of docs all standing behind her. 2/
"Hydroxychloroquine and ivermectin can be used to stop the virus, don't need the vaccine". So suffice to say I was anticipating quite the conversation. Called him back, calmly explained the evidence, this group's history, etc. 3/
And guess what? The patient accepted the explanation, and was thankful for it. And I thanked him for reaching out to me if he sees something online that he has questions about. This is how we prevent online medical radicalization. 4/
I was initially dreading the phone call because I assumed he had already gone too far down the rabbit hole, but it's a good reminder never to assume where someone is along the conspiratorial spectrum. 5/
