I will just be blubbering in the corner for the remainder of the day. I just presented about ableism and Bill C-7 at Grand Rounds at Western University and I could not have asked for a better reaction from the physicians.
They asked all the right questions and cared deeply.

I mean I am also very pleased with their reaction on a political level but I can't express how meaningful the last two hours were for me on a personal level.
I was so scared going in. I was sure they were going to dismiss me or be defensive but not at all.

And listen, I assure you I did not hold back. I laid out the history of ableism, eugenics, institutionalization, sterilization and exclusion and put it all on their doorstep -
'This belongs to the medical profession. This is you.'

The title of my talk was "Better dead than disabled is not good medical advice."
Doctors were asking *me* what they should do!!
Doctors asking a crip who identified herself as living in poverty, for advice.
Pinch me.

I am so grateful for the opportunity to work with the physician who invited me.
She gave me free rein to present whatever I wanted. Did not ask to see my presentation beforehand. No censoring at all and it was her who they had invited not me. She just gave me some of her time.

I knew that she would cover a lot about the actual bill so I decided my presentation would attempt to give them a historical and theoretical foundation for my opinions on the bill which I gave at the end. Anyway, there is power in crip history & analysis. It's not me.
To all the bad crips past and present

I think the Canadian Senate is about to get a whole lot more letters about Bill C-7.
