This thread has been RTed into my timeline by a few people I follow and at the risk of giving it more light, it's a textbook example of how pervasive the sexism around teachers and teacher unions is. https://twitter.com/VPrasadMDMPH/status/1350992946968096771
I've been struck by how many have used the term "irrational" to describe unions' actions/teachers' asks. As others have said, unions negotiate. That's their job. There's always someone else at the table. Meanwhile, a whole bunch of teachers aren't protected by unions.
What's remarkable is not only does he hold teachers responsible for closing schools - which neatly leaves the mostly male administrators, school boards, and politicians off the hook - he's blaming them for child abuse.
The argument, in effect, is if only teachers and unions were rational, teachers would set aside their concerns, figure out childcare/eldercare and ... man up and go to work.
Which, to be sure, @VPrasadMDMPH doesn't say that. That, though, is his message. Which. Hum.

(Inevitably, someone will ask if I'm saying unions shouldn't be critiqued. This thread, though, isn't a critique. It's placing blame. IMO, it's worth sitting with why a doctor made the choice to lay the blame for child abuse at the feet of a group that's mostly women?)
Meanwhile, there is an entire dissertation to be written about the overlap between the "open schools" movement - from players to messaging to tactics - and the "school choice" movement.
