After American Baptist preacher, William Miller's proclamations that Jesus Christ would return by 1844 failed to materialize, large segments of the American Church experienced what has come to be known as "The Great Disappointment."
For the majority of folks out there, processing disappointment in a humble and godly way is one of the most important features of living a godly life in Christ.
After Jesus didn't return in 1844, Miller's followers chose one of two paths. Some humbly accepted that they'd been deceived, clung to Jesus, and turned to the Scriptures. Many others simply adjusted, reorganized, and followed a new false prophet and his prophecies.
From this movement, there emerged several new errant movements, teachers, and prophets such as Ellen G. White, (Seventh Day Adventism), Charles Taze Russell (Jehovah's Witnesses), and even the Bahái faith.
