Success in 2021 - A Monday Thread

In a world which is often obsessed with comparison with others and what defines ‘success’, we want to relook at what achievement and positive mental health means to us in 2021...
In the last 12 months most of us have lost work & seen colleagues and businesses struggle & the live arts are on indefinite pause.

We talked a lot during lockdown 1.0 about achievement - whether reorganising your CV, reading a new play on Zoom or just getting out of bed...
In lockdown 3.0 not much has changed -

STOP obsessing with other people’s announcements on social media. Their concert/online stream/new producing house/album is ONLY a good thing to have people moving forward, it doesn’t diminish anything you’re doing/lessen your achievements.
STOP thinking of work being ‘good’ or ‘bad’
Ask yourself - Is the pay in line with industry rates? Is the product good? Will I be looked after? Remember NO Hollywood actors were doing TV (!) when Rob Lowe took West Wing. Things change.
STOP engaging with other people negatively on social media. It will only make you feel worse. Focus on people and threads that uplift and inspire you, even if they’re silly. Sometimes switch your socials off, even if just a few hours. We all need to do this.
STOP feeling like you’re not good enough. The industry will come back and there IS room for you in it. You are what MAKES this industry, whether you’re an actor, a creative, FOH, producer or anything else.
Just because it’s not 2020 doesn’t mean it’s not still hard. It’s ok if all you did was get out of bed today. It’s 2021. It’s ok. ❀
