Why is most revision a waste of time?❌
What causes our brain to actually remember?🧠

A thread đŸ§”
Have you ever studied for a exam like 4 times and the 5th time you’re reading the book you’re like I remember this sentence too this one too!
But when you actually sit for the exam you can’t remember it then?
Oops!đŸ˜Č
Your brain actually doesn’t care when you keep looking at something ,
Have you ever saw someone and you’re like yeah I remember the face but can’t remember their name, but if someone suddenly says their name or they have a name tag you instantly remember mostly everything!đŸ€”
It’s much easier to look at something , but much harder to not look at it and then recall it ,
which is typically what creates a memory
Each time you don’t look at something and try to actually recall it your brain is strengthening that memory.
This creates a sort of overlapping sheet of neurons, that strengthens the memory, but when you are just again and again looking at it it’s easier for the brain to process the visuals and there is not much of a work done by you.
Now how do you actually fix this?
Here are three ways-
1)Build a project with it: Its much easier to recall the information when you’re actually implementing it.
But projects are not always physically possible or do come at a cost
Is there a easier way?
2)Find some questions and self assess yourself, when you are stuck on a question you try really hard to recall it and that’s when our memory is actually strengthened
But is there even a easier way?
3)Explain it to somebody else: Its the best way to recall something because not only you’re remembering something but also shaping it in your own words. Help a classmate or record a video about you explaining the topic, you won’t imagine how fast you will grasp it.
So now you know why you don’t remember working of motor but that 6th class windmill project , the topic that came yesterday in test and the movie you just explained to your friend.
What do we actually learn here?
There is a huge difference between re-reading and recalling
Recalling can be a great help but just re-reading it again and again in the name of revising is sort of worthless
That’s it! That’s the thread!
