South Africa breached one million Covid-19 cases three weeks ago, on 27 Dec 2020. In these past three weeks we have seen 33% of all cases recorded in SA since the start of the pandemic.
So after spreading for ten months, cases took only 3 weeks to increase by a third.

In the same time it took for SA cases to increase by 33%, deaths attributed to Covid-19 have increased by 39%, from 26735 to 37105. This is one vicious virus.
As reported in the Washington Post today, South Africa’s excess deaths during the pandemic top 110,000, and 30,000 of these were recorded in January 2021.
