Reminder that while abstinence-only programs dominate American addiction treatments they don’t work for everyone and other countries have explored different treatments that seem to work better while the American model is built around profits and based in religious dogma
If AA works for you that’s great but it’s not the only option and there is no hard proof to back up their effectiveness claims.

I still drink but I do it responsibly now. And according to AA that is impossible for an alcoholic to do. I’m just a ticking time bomb waiting to explode. It is an ingrained moral failing that nothing can be done about short of total abstinence. It’s a lie
All it took for me was 11 years drying out at the taxpayer’s expense and an adjustment of habits. But it didn’t have to take 11 years. Profits were why it did and somebody died in the process. And it makes me angry
