Thread: There’s quite a bit of confusion surrounding the fight for McIver’s Ladies Baths so here are some of the key points.

The baths were already trans-inclusive as per state law.

In NSW you can change your legal sex *only* if you’ve had sex-reassignment surgery.

1.
As a result post-op trans women have been welcome at the baths for some time.

Self-ID does not exist in the state of NSW.

The baths were granted an exemption under the Sex Discrimination Act and can exclude anyone who is legally male including pre-op trans women.

2.
Activists are arguing that ANY man who ‘identifies’ as a woman should be allowed access to the venue. However the law is not on their side.

Randwick Council does not run the baths. They’re controlled by the Randwick & Coogee Ladies Swimming Association.

3.
If anyone is interested in speaking to the Association directly, send me a DM for their mobile number.

Trans activists staged a protest at the baths yesterday which was attended by Randwick Council’s Deputy Mayor who spoke at the event.

4.
According to the Council they are working directly with the Swimming Association to address the furore.

All parties involved are taking feedback from the community before making any further decisions regarding access for ‘self-identified’ women.

5.
I contacted the council directly on 1300 722 542 to voice my support for the baths and they were very receptive to the feedback.

The counter petition is now approaching 4000 signatures so please sign if you haven’t already done so.
