#THREAD Nothing is more laughable than the assertion that @haaretzcom gives a damn about the war on #Antisemitism; Haaretz needs antisemites.
It needs right-wing antisemites as a means to condemn & demonize the Israeli right; and it needs left-wing antisemites as readership. 1/ https://twitter.com/noa_landau/status/1351035933152440320

What's the actual story here? Haaretz has taken a role in the struggle to internationalize the middle east conflict and bring Israel on its knees through international pressure.
This struggle has suffered some serious blows in recent years, all the while a growing despair from 2/

The impossibility of societal/political change within Israel towards Haaretz's position.
In that struggle, the most notorious allies of the Israeli anti-Zionists (whose bulletin is Haaretz) were always leftie anti-Zionists abroad, lots of whom tend to dislike Jews at large. 3/

Haaretz's problem with the IHRA definition of antisemitism lies in the fact that it allows for calling out and designating left-wing (in addition to right wing) antisemites as what they actually are. That hurts what Haaretz considers to be the more crucial goal. 4/
In contrast to what one might conclude from reading @noa_landau's outrageous piece, the IHRA (International Holocaust Remembrance Alliance) is not an org full of Israeli government appointments, nor it was established by Israel. 5/
IHRA's Honorary Chairman, holocaust historian Yehuda Bauer, attacks and condemns @Netanyahu all the time - on the very pages of Haaretz itself!
The definition is a result of the work of experts, not of the maligned Israel lobby.

But a lot of the people that the definition designate as antisemites, are Haaretz's allies in its fight against Israel. So there we are.
Not coincidentally, not @noa_landau in her piece nor any other protestor even tries to suggest an alternative definition of antisemitism. 7/

They want antisemitism to be defined loosely, in vague terms, so it won't stick to people that they happen to like.
Any definition suggestion will do one of two things: either it will include left-wing anti-Zionists, or it will expose the motive of the one who suggested it. 8/

Also, @noa_landau's piece, titled "How Israel is Harming the War on Antisemitism" does not include EVEN ONE EXAMPLE of the way the war on on antisemitism is being harmed. Not one! Only that IHRA definition is "controversial" and it "sparks concerns". Think for yourself why. 9/9
