yea im just sick of this let me just rant..
first of all, the reasons the indonesians are mad are due to the fact she doesn't pay taxes and that her visa wasn't even valid. i'm sure there's a thread out there with all the screenshots and all—i'm not gonna bother saving or stealing the screenshots, i didnt take any myself.
other than that, she is literally promoting moving to bali—while painting it as some sort of utopia—during a pandemic. i'll just tack down here the current stats for indonesian covid cases.

i want to start this off by saying that a lot of us are definitely in the wrong with the death threats, antiblackness. indonesia as a country isn't very "woke" (which is a term i loathe to use nowadays). there are a lot of issues, while the indonesians you know on the internet +
might be more educated on issues like homophobia and racism, most of the others didn't have that kind of access privilege growing up. this isn't to say the antiblackness is something i excuse though, it's still very wrong.

the first thing i saw yesterday that clued me on the whole issue was a north american telling an indonesian to "try not to get natural disasters." no, it isn't 'try to handle it better' but try not to get some. LMFAO.

so the issue likely won't die down for as long as both sides try to fuel each other's anger.

in general, western influence is just a tiring thing for south-east asians. something to fear. it's well-deserved—i can only speak about what i know but indonesians were colonialized for 350+ years.

it refers to foreigners in general, regardless of race. it is simply that most of the foreigners we encounter are white people because they're the ones who have the privilege to travel here.
