Sometimes in this field employers will ask you to do unethical and illegal things. Here is a story of on of those requests:

Boss: A person made a parody account of this place and is posting swear words.

Me: Hahaha, that's funny.

Boss: No... it's not.

Me: 🙄 Okay...

Boss: We need to stop them!

Me: Why? It'll just make them more popular.

Boss: No it won't, that's not how social media works.

Me: 🙄 Okay...

Boss: Can you hack them and find out who it is.

Me: Uhh... I'm not going to do that.

Boss: Why?

Me: It's illegal.

(2/5)
Boss: What if I get it in writing it'll be legal for you to do it.

Me: Still a no.

Boss: So you just aren't going to do your job?

Me: No, I'm not going to do illegal and unethical things because someone made a joke account on Facebook.

Boss: I could write you up.

Me: 🙄 K. As your security advisor I'm advising you against taking action because it won't accomplish your goal. Put out on our socials what our official accounts are to educate the public and ignore the parody account. It'll go away.

The parody account went away after a couple months and didn't have that many followers anyway. I didn't get written up either.

You don't need to do illegal or unethical things your employer asks you to do, but build up your network so you can make a quick change if needed.
