This AP report about fears of “possible inside attack” shows why security and safety must overwhelm any other consideration when President and Vice President are sworn in on Wednesday.
Please reconsider possibility of inauguration at military base or another fortified location. Symbolism must bow to safety.
Remember that until noon Wednesday, the Commander-in-Chief giving orders to United States military will be Donald Trump.
Remember warnings of history. Forty years ago this fall, President Anwar Sadat of Egypt was target of the kind of “inside attack” by military officers at a parade that AP is reporting fears about tonight.
On Inaugural Day 1945, for security reasons, FDR never left White House, was sworn in and gave his speech on South Portico, along with new Vice President Harry Truman:
