the Bali discourse clearly has anti-Blackness ingrained in it due to the exclusion and erasure of Black Indonesian voices on the matter.“we don’t care that she’s Black, we have Black people at home” then why not amplify Black Indonesian voices? your anti-Blackness hurts them too.
unpack why y’all are only centering non-Black Indonesians on the matter. because what it looks like is you’re exploiting Black Indonesians back home for your own confirmation bias as if proximity to them exempts you from the anti-Blackness. anti-Blackness is global and systemic.
not only are they affected by colonialism through the tourist industry, but they are also affected by anti-Blackness. if anything, they should be centered in the Bali discourse and the exclusion is anti-Black in itself, especially when you add the state-sanctioned violence.
if it’s “we don’t care that she’s Black, we have Black people back home” then how do you think your anti-Blackness affects them specifically? or do you only care about them when it’s time to show proximity to Black people while simultaneously excluding them from the conversation?
that’s why to say there’s no issue of race involved is a lie. if it’s just an issue of colonialism, then why exclude the Black Indonesians from the discourse of exploitation in the global south since they deal with that AND anti-Black state-sanctioned violence??
there’s no solidarity without acknowledging how your role in anti-Blackness deliberately erases Black Indonesians from this conversation. only acknowledging what you want to hear while excluding Black Indonesians IS anti-Blackness. your anti-Blackness hurts them most of all.
