$66,563 for the rights to mountain top removal in the eastern slopes. Seems to me that @jkenney could have asked @CorbLund, @kdlang, @paulbrandt and a few others to hold a fundraiser to preserve the lands and raised 10x those dollars. 1/ https://twitter.com/iturquhart/status/1339352302050676736
And, if you wanted to offset coal royalties, cut the war room budget in half. Over the last 5 years, TOTAL coal royalties to the AB gov't have averaged $15 million per year. Gov't would be ahead, we'd have more protected land and fewer embarrassing gaffes. #ableg
Fun trivia: in 2012-2013, Alberta was a net PAYER of royalties! We paid out $3 million more in compensatory payments, credits and rebates than we received in royalties. When mining coal in conservative Alberta, government pays you! #ableg

Coal royalties have also never exceeded 1.3% of total non-renewable resource revenues in Alberta. The coal industry is locally important, but it's not going to be material to the province as a whole. On the other hand, we're talking about irreversible environmental damage.
You'll notice that the 'booming' coal strip mining industry was absent from this video. Wonder why.
