My turn!

#NowWatching PROMISING YOUNG WOMAN (2020)
OH I HAVE THOUGHTS AND FEELINGS
Mostly though rn... I can’t stop thinking about how perfect that title of PROMISING YOUNG WOMAN is. It represents a lot of the message I found in the film based on my own experience.
I watch movies with this subject matter looking for that bit of catharsis that will make me feel better for a while - knowing that true catharsis isn’t possible. It will always be there. This was the first movie I’ve seen to acknowledge that.
Dammit I knew this movie was gonna do this to me
I’m glad I watched it... just so much triggering stuff, especially the scene with the second guy who takes her home... and talking about being drunk and making yourself vulnerable
Sorry, I know no one likes when I talk about this
Continuing with this because my heart still hurts: an important reminder that I got from PYW is that a survivor’s pain is forever and should not be forgotten or taken lightly.
To others in the film, the incident made no impact - a frustrating truth to those who cannot simply “move on.”
Which goes back to the title - why do we so often dismiss or invalidate survivors in favor of so-called “promising young men”?
