Just, please stop with the gauzy profiles, please, I am begging you.
In the Trump years, I only remember one major profile of people of color in a Trump-loving county in the midwest.
This may be my own bad memory. But the major outlets wrote profile after profile of angry white people (who had won!) and their grievances. We just saw Black voters perform an astonishing feat in Georgia despite horrific suppression, and I've seen no profiles of Black voters.
And again, this may be me missing things! Because I do not read every major newspaper or watch any major channels. But I'm seeing so many Trump voter profiles STILL!
There's a soft-focus profile of a Nice White Lady who promotes QAnon in the NYT.
When Republicans win, it's like, "well, clearly, this speaks to people, so we need to hear them out," and when Republicans lose, it's like, "wow, they are very upset, how are Democrats going to appeal to them?"
Always, always, aggrieved white people are centered. Always, always, aggrieved white people are assumed to be full and complex humans.

Centering white people is what promotes the aggrieved attitude from people who are angry that other people might also get a slice of the pie. It says, "Yes, you ARE in fact life's protagonist."
This is very different than the careful, thoughtful work historians do to profile and understand harmful people and movements.
