Before 2020, I spent some time talking about police brutality, which of course became the centerpiece of discussion in #BlackLivesMatter . Decided to take a look at the stats for 2020 since I hadn't spent much distinct time on it.
In 2020, a year where many citizens tried to stay home as much as possible, maybe we would have seen some kind of difference?

No.
In 2020, 1065 people were killed by police, the same as in 2016. Down 30 from 2019.

That's just under 3 per day. https://killedbypolice.net
I encourage everyone to look at the stats more deeply. Certain states have much higher rates than others, certain cities much higher than others.
The cops as we know kill Black men and Hispanic men outpace, but also kill ppl with MI, or who are not neurotypical far more.
of the 1065, 15 were identified as women, and one person as trans (unclear if trans woman or trans man from stats, I will try to google story)
we have been doing policing wrong if we accept that 3 people per day are killed by the people sworn to protect us.
And that includes criminals.

Other nations do not have to kill their own citizens like we do to control crime.
There are too many guns in this country, and not enough social supports, we have more people than most nations, and huge economic disparities. I am not saying there's a simple answer.

But ignoring the problem isn't an answer either.
