Wow! Okay. Lot to unpack for this new MHA Chapter so I’m gonna do a little thread. Been waiting on these Tartarus chapters for awhile, and this one didn’t disappoint.
This was one of my highlights from the chapter off dialogue alone. “Quirks have warped our standards for humanity” might be one of my favorite pieces of dialogue in MHA.
AFO took a massive jump for me with the last few chapters. I enjoyed the dialogue between him and Shiggy immensely this chapter, and I like how he’s giving off this “it was all part of my plan from the very beginning” vibe. Reminds me of one of my favorite villains of all time
ALSO THIS. Shiggy wanted power, but he wanted be controlled to fulfill his motivations. Him and AFO have a similar end goal, but he knows it’s his story now. However, I’m not convinced AFO isn’t cultivating his body to later take over in the end when his body is near completion.
“You’re the next me” can either mean he has entrusted his legacy to Shigaraki already, and he wants to mentor him until his time is full over; or he could be using Shigaraki as a vessel for his will, to later take over. Literally turning Shigaraki into the “next AFO”.
I think this a great panel to leave off on as well. Is he referring to his legacy as a demon lord, or does he still wish to rule in the state he is now until he can control Shigaraki’s body? Really curious to see where Hori goes with this.
The freeing of Musuclar (among other villains, hopefully stain) also adds an interesting factor. Will they fight with Shiggy/AFO, or will they reject him to continue their own independent agendas? A possible temporary alliance coulda also be in the works.
All in all, I enjoyed the fuck out this chapter. I was anticipating this prison break for awhile, and Hori is not disappointing with the start. 10/10.
