EMINEM - MUSIC TO BE MURDERED BY RELISTEN THREAD

It’s its first anniversary today. I‘ve had this album at a 3.5 forever but it’s been like 8 months since I last listened.

I‘m gonna tweet as I listen and I have the lyrics pulled up. RETWEETS APPRECIATED!
I‘m only gonna do Side A because in all honesty I can’t be asked to sit through like 2 hours but if you want a thread for Side B just lmk and I‘ll see.
1. PREMONITION

I really like the singing in the beginning and the kinda scary vibe it gives off.
And then Em comes in with some of the worst opening lines I‘ve ever heard. Why would you just continue whining about people calling your trash album trash?
I know this track is loved but honestly I‘ve never liked it and I hate that I gotta start this thread on a negative note but I won‘t lie.
Em‘s flow isn‘t particularly good and that alphabet line.. man.
2. UNACCOMODATING

Why is Young M.A. on an Eminem album? I‘m sorry but Em featuring a new school artist like her all of the sudden feels like pandering.
I think she underperforms too.
On the other hand tho, Em is very energetic and WASHES her.
Some of his lines here are terrible (I been laden lately..) and that Ariana concert reference is so incredibly forced. Like you don’t have to be edgy at every chance.
However, Em‘s performance on here is pretty good.
3. YOU GON LEARN

Without a doubt my favorite song on the album. Royce gives the best beat of the album, White Gold delivers a dope hook and Royce drops arguably the best verse on the album and imo his best verse of the year. Absolutely fantastic verse.
And then.. Em comes in. Now don’t get me wrong. I like his verse. He had some nice lines. But imo this might be the first BME track where one absolutely bodied the other. Em did not match the vibe Royce set at all. Instead of having similar subject matter, he decides..
..to come at the new school once again. bruh.
4. ALFRED (INTERLUDE)

I think this interlude is here to remind us of the concept getting wasted.
5. THOSE KINDA NIGHTS

How do you absolutely get bodied by an Ed Sheeran hook? Almost remarkable. Em has more cringe lines on here than I could fit in this thread. This song genuinely hurts to listen to.
Also, to all the Em stans who argue like “Those lines are just supposed to be funny, other rappers do it too and y‘all say nothing“:
They actually have funny lines then. Because this shit is just sad. Not funny, not hilarious.
6. IN TOO DEEP

Finally. A relationship song. I know Em tried his hardest to make it to track six without having one.
Surprisingly, I actually kinda like his hook. It definitely is memorable. I definitely don’t like his flow here tho.
And I don’t think I have to mention this but Jesus Christ Em, stop with the relationship songs bruh. Genuinely feel like he’s made this song 12 times in the last 3-4 years.
7. GODZILLA

This is the EPITOME of Em‘s rappity rap and I‘ve said this many times but I think it’s literally insanely trash. If it wasn’t for that fire Juice hook (RIP) and a few other songs on this album I‘d definitely call this the worst song of the year.
The lyricism on this is quite terrible. I‘m not even gonna quote lines here because I don’t wanna suffer anymore.
And as I wrote that last sentence he started rapping extra fast. Extra trash.
“I'm undebatable, I'm unavoidable, I'm unevadable
I'm on the toilet bowl“..................

I don’t care, fast rapping isn’t a skill if it’s used to hide this shit.
8. DARKNESS

Why isn’t Em just writing tracks like this more if he‘s capable of it? It’s pretty well-written. I think the concept is fairly obvious but that’s not a bad thing, it’s still very clever and although I don‘t listen to this song, it’s definitely a great song.
However, I feel like I‘d be lying if I didn’t say this:
I think it‘s often made out to be something it’s not as some sort of exploration of mental health or commentary on gun control. I don‘t think it’s either of those at all, it’s just a well-written double entendre..
...about Em before a show and the Vegas shooter.
This doesn’t take away from what I said about the song being well-written and great tho.
9. LEAVING HEAVEN

Now as much hate as Skylar Grey (deservedly) gets, she actually kills the hook on this.
Em has some great subject matter too and some great lines. Some great flow variations too.
Also, let me just say this before I forget it:

This song has such a fucking great crescendo.
The emotion in Em‘s voice when he raps about his father in the last verse is amazing.
I hope this song brought him the closure he talks about.
10. YAH YAH

This song is so insanely overproduced bruh it’s such a waste.
I‘m also really disappointed at Royce‘s performance here I think he totally underperformed. The Q-Tip/Royce hook is dope.
Black Thought rips this track apart tho. Like he washes both Royce and Em completely. This is either the best or second best verse on the entire album and you know what’s crazy?

This isn’t even in his top 5 features of 2020. The absolute GOAT.
Em‘s verse is pretty dope too. Some nice flows, some meh ones. It’s definitely impressive that he rhymed all those rappers although I don’t really like it lmao. But yeah overall this song suffers from the trash ass production.
11. STEPDAD (INTRO)

Calm before the storm.
12. STEPDAD

I don’t care. The memes about this song are not funny. This song is so insanely trash bruh. How does Eminem finally decide to work with one of the best producers of all time and it turns out to be this terrible?
At least the euthanasia is like the first kinda funny line on the album. Doesn‘t save this song from having a few trash ass verses and a terrible hook.
Em, you‘re like 47. You should be over your stepdaddy being a dickhead by now. And if not, PLEASE talk about that somewhere else
I remember when this album dropped a classmate of mine sang this hook for a little and was ashamed when I just looked at him. That was funny.
13. MARSH

It’s like nobody except for Em listens to the track he makes before he puts them out. A bunch of rappity rap ass verses that are overshadowed by a vomit-inducing hook. I don’t even know if that‘s the right term but I have no time to check. I‘m under too much pain.
Again, the amount of astonishingly ass lines on here is incredible.
14. NEVER LOVE AGAIN

This has one of the better Eminem hooks on this album. That doesn’t mean much at all tho.
It’s definitely a good song concept of a double entendre with drug abuse and..... a relationship. 😐😐😐😐😐😐😐😐
I just can’t listen to him making the some song over and over again bruh. It’s good that he had the drug abuse concept here because otherwise I prolly would’ve turned the album off.
15. LITTLE ENGINE

Alfred Hitchcock appears again to remind us of the concept being wasted.
Em has some insanely cringey lines that are again somehow being overshadowed by one of the worst hooks of the year. bruh. How many Yes-Men does this man have?
16. LOCK IT UP

Paak simply has the Midas touch. That dude has never missed in his entire life and has a great ass performance here too.
He pulls Em with him who has a dope performance on here too. However, he again gets absolutely outperformed.
17. FAREWELL

Like.. you gotta be fucking kidding me. Honestly I won’t even try to say more about this. This is ridiculously trash.
“If I catch you sucking another dick
You better unsuck it“....................😐
Gonna take a piss (literally, not like I‘ve been doing).
18. NO REGRETS

Don Toliver delivers the best hook of the entire album. It’s ridiculously fire.
I actually like Em‘s verses on here, mainly because of his delivery because it’s finally chill for once and not as bitter.
I don’t really know why he talked about some regrets of his on a track literally called “No Regrets“ but the message of a lot of this is dope. Without a doubt one of my favorites on the album.
And I can’t stress this enough, Don Toliver killed it.
19. I WILL

The album ends with a solid posse cut featuring Slaughterhouse minus Joe.
Royce has a dope verse with some dope ass wordplay. Em delivers his by far best hook of the album. KXNG Crooked has some great ass wordplay and flows too.
Joell Ortiz has a dope verse too. I actually just listened to an album of his for the first time, Mona Lisa with Apollo Brown. I liked it.
Em has a dope verse with some great lines too. I‘d probably give Royce the best verse on here.
20. ALFRED (OUTRO)

Alfred Hitchcock closes the album by reminding us all once again that the concept was wasted.
FINAL THOUGHTS:

This relisten hasn‘t really changed my opinion on the album. There are some great tracks on here where Em proves that he can still rap well and even write well. His beat selection on this is also significantly better than on many of his previous efforts.
The feature list is pretty good. However, Em gets outperformed or even bodied by the features more than not which is not something we‘re used to from him.
Now, there are also some absolutely terrible tracks and apart from the highs..
I don’t really think there are many above average songs on here.
Overall, this is not a good album, I‘m sorry.

I will say tho that I liked Side B way better off first listen so just lmk if you want a thread for that.

Thank you for reading and I appreciate any shares!
Gonna cleanse my ears with some Lloyd Banks. 👀
