In one year on Twitter I gained over 4000 followers. I have been asked by a good friend to provide some insight on how I did this and how did I go from 200 to 2000 followers. So I am going to provide tips, tricks and mistakes I made to grow my follower count.
The first and most important step(and this goes for making connections in life) is be kind!
The second step I think is the most important. Connect. Twitter is a form of Social Media. Like tweets, reply to tweets, and send DMs. This will help you get seen by more than just your followers because people who follow others interactions with will see your responses as well.
Third step is when you see a follow train, even if you are not already tagged in it A. respond and B. go through and follow everyone in it. People usually follow back. I do not care about follower ratios, so if that is something you care about then this will ruin it.
Fourth step is to get affiliated with a larger site. If you are a writer, podcaster, or YouTuber, then getting affiliated with a larger website gives you a larger audience. This will allow you to also build more relationships with the people already at the site.
The more relationships you build the larger support system you have for all of your content.

Mistakes I made: Not diving in to producing content fast enough. People want to read good content and will. Put it out there. Other ones I made were focusing on the big fish.
I wanted the people who I viewed as superstars to follow me and focused on that a little too much, still do. The best relationships I have made though are with the people that are more like me in follower count or smaller. And there are great people all over.
This is in no way meant to be bragging. I am extremely thankful for my followers. All of them! I love interacting with you guys every day!
