All the federal executions in the past few months (especially the callousness of our lame-duck president squeezing in a few more before he's gone) has me thinking about my own family history again. @Chris_SmithsJ recently shared his own family's story. 1/ https://twitter.com/Chris_SmithsJ/status/1350502578816245761?s=19
In Chris's case, his great grandfather was the victim of a horrible crime, and his great grandmother fought for clemency for his murderer.

My own great-grandfather's story was much different. He committed a horrible crime as a teenager and was sentenced to death. /2
What is unconscionable to me is why Christians, especially Catholics (who are dissenters from the teaching of the Church on the death penalty), cheer the death penalty, advocate for it, defend it so passionately. It's as if they think killing and vengeance are sacred. 5/
Why not choose life? Why not take the road that's more merciful? Why not respect the inviolability of human dignity?

I don't understand how a self-described Christian can have so much thirst for the blood of another person. 6/6
