If you dropped your phone in space ?? What would happen ??

I know that any object in space cannot gain or lose any speed than it originally started with. So if your hand just slipped off of your phone, would it just float still?

What I said before that does kinda answer my own question but it just doesn't make sense. Just like if you for some reason threw your phone. It would just continue to fly away from you at that same speed.

As it wouldn't gain or lose any kinetic energy until directly contacting an equal or opposite force. But it just seems so BIZZARE??

But like if you let go of your phone, it just ? Stays there ??? If you throw it at 15mph it will stay travelling at 15mph until it hits another object or comes into contact with a gravitational pull ???

I am just so used to gravity, that questioning the laws of gravity is just absurd??
