The GC movement's goals in the US and UK are indistinguishable from the goals of the American Christian far-right: A thread.

In 2015, the Family Research Council published a plan for the trans community. It had 5 points (paraphrased for brevity): 1/n

https://downloads.frc.org/EF/EF15F45.pdf
1. No legal recognition of trans identities

2. No legal protections of trans people

3. No coverage of transition related care

4. No requirements that transition care should be covered

5. No trans people in the military.

By and large, they have succeeded in the UK 2/n
To each point:

1. GCs want to repeal the GRA, and eliminate deed poll changes to gender markers on government ID

2. They want to change the legal understanding of the 2010 EA to exclude trans people 3/n
3. Getting transition related care covered by NHS is almost impossible in the UK. Minors are blocked by the courts. Adults have a 3-4 year wait for an intake appointment. Chalk this one up as a mission kill. 4/n
4. Though there are private clinics, there is no requirement that trans people be reimbursed for seeking treatment rather than waiting 4-5 years to begin treatment.

5. Given zero recognition of trans identities, trans troops would be segregated or forced out. 5/n
In order to portray themselves as somehow compassionate, they propose separate but equal spaces for trans gender people. They don't address who will pay for these facilities, how they will be mandated via legislation, or any of the other critical details. 7/n
And when you look at the admin lists for anti-trans groups on social media you find "feminists" who represent the Eagle Forum. The anti-feminist organization created by Phyllis Schlafley that opposed the ERA. loves Trump and conspiracy theories 8/n
Others, like Keffler, are affiliated with Family Watch International, which aims to spread Christian legal, social, and medical theories around the globe. (i.e. they're big fans of conversion therapy on gays, and making homosexuality illegal again). 9/n
This is not a feminist movement in any traditional sense: it's "backbone" is the Christian Right, which has looked for opportunities to amplify the messages of a minority of people consumed by fear, revulsion, and loathing of trans people. 10/n
It should make anyone wary of hating and targeting the same people fascists target. It should make you nervous when they use the same rhetoric and talking points, and have the same goals as for what is to be done with the people they hate. 12/n
Especially when many, if not most, of the people in these "feminist" groups being hard core Trump supporters.

What is happening to trans people in the US and the UK is the extension a theocratic movement that originated in the US. These are not "legitimate concerns". 13/n
They are policy goals of the theocratic wing of a fascist movement. They are not backed by real science or professional organizations (AMA, AAP, APA, WPATH), but echo chambers in right wing media. 14/n
Even their narrative of "a conspiracy of Jewish billionaires and big pharma stealing and sexually mutilating children" is eerily similar to QAnon's suppositions, or "The Protocols of the Elders of Zion". 15/n
I will leave this thread with a quote by Voltaire:

“Those who can make you believe absurdities, can make you commit atrocities.”

I hope we can look back at this warning with relief of having dodged a bullet, rather than people solemnly vowing "never again." 16/n
