It’s also important that there is an archive of records currently being transferred to NARA under the Presidential Records Act. That will be out of Trump’s hands at 1200 on Jan 20th.
While Trump will balk at endowing a NARA-run facility he won’t hesitate to use setting up what will amount to a Potemkin Library as a venture to grift.
Also missed: the former president under the Presidential Records Act gets a say in access decisions about records in NARA’s custody. That is months if not years away.
Because Trump’s OMB withheld funds for the PRA transfer NARA is much further behind in this transfer than the last two-term transfers in 2008 and 2016.
