While I agree there is a Christian hegemony and a burgeoning christofascism, I would also like some understanding that there are branches of Christianity that broke from others 500-1000 years ago and those christofascists wouldn't consider *US* Christians.
Whether we disown them or call them in or whatever, Evangelicals consider my Anglocatholic ass unsaved, which is kind of important to the options available to me.
Evangelicals also have basically 0 ties to people outside the evangelical community. They go to church on Wednesday. Their friends are at church. Their family is at church. They go to concerts at church. We heathen Christians literally don't know them. They are cloistered.
So while I am responsible for them in the way anyone is responsible for their fellow man, I have zero currency, community, and credibility with these people, and maybe even negative if they are familiar with my denomination. I can't approach them insider to insider.
Now, if you want me to consider the sins of my fathers and beat my chest and do ten Hail Marys, consider them done. I am all into original and collective sin. It's kinda Our Thing.
