so my friend and i were out for a walk and he spotted this gravestone and wanted to read the music. it's some quarter-notes and then four rests, and underneath it says "only resting"

ME: what's the tune?
HIM: i'm not sure...it's D-E-A-D
ME: ....WHAT
so basically this is the greatest headstone ever.

(btw the guy's dad was buried next to him, they are clearly both named Harper Forrest Smith but his dad was Harper F. and he was H. Forrest which I found cute)
i speculated about who designed it and he was like OBVIOUSLY the guy designed it himself before he died and i had to admit he was obviously right
oh damn I just realized he was only 24, that's so sad!
OH MY GOD AND IT'S IN 2-4 TIME???????
CLEARLY a genius taken from us before his time
psst I also write historical romance, if that sounds like a thing you might like here is a rundown of my books https://twitter.com/RoseLerner/status/1212771826314731520
ALSO if you enjoyed the vibe of this headstone consider reading "witching hill" by ew hornung i think you might like it! (and neither of the main characters dies tragically young, don't worry)
(no one dies tragically young AND there is a central subtextual-but-barely gay romance which is a rare and beautiful combination in edwardian literature)
