Mi gente, I am reposting myself because I have already been asked and seen posts from WL teachers talking about #blackhistorymonth
and I have been asked if I have created a unit or resources.
So #langchat

So #langchat
I want to make myself clear here. I don’t believe the history of accomplishments of BIPOC or any minoritized community should be relegated to a month. I believe the
school calendar - the timeline in history books have been designed to do so #langchat #BlackHistoryMonth

It exalts the accomplishments and heroicity of yt men and it has been peppered with months dedicated to other communities for the sake of shallow multiculturality. Tokenism at its best #langchat #BlackHistoryMonth

Before you buy that bundle with bios of Afrolatinx peoples. Why don’t you rethink a way on how to highlight the accomplishments, the resistance of Afrolatinx people all year long? #langchat #BlackHistoryMonth

Why don’t you find a way for your students to see the myriad of cultures and nuance in the Afrolatinx community?
Before you have your students memorize facts, why don’t you question yourself, am I humanizing? #langchat #BlackHistoryMonth
Before you have your students memorize facts, why don’t you question yourself, am I humanizing? #langchat #BlackHistoryMonth

Am I using narratives of resistance, success and brilliance? Am I discussing the colonialism, systemic racism and yt supremacy that caused the struggle of said person in the first place? #langchat #BlackHistoryMonth

Am I using the soap opera style to trivialize the history of a community that deserves a documentary style narrative? #langchat #BlackHistoryMonth
@AdrienneBranden @doriecp @MsAbeja @profnoury where have we seen this?

Fight the biases/anti-negritud overly present in the Spanish speaking community all year long. Talk about its roots- the caste system of the Spaniards and its repercussions. Talk about la RĂ©volution HaĂŻtienne, Revolisyon Ayisyen. #langchat
