Just arrived back from 🇧🇧 where I had to go to set some things up for a property purchase and to officially immigrate. But the one thing I can’t shake is the stark difference in how hygiene is enforced, and complied in comparison to the US. Go with me here...
Want to walk into a grocery store, bar, govt building, fast food restaurant, etc? First thing you will see is a person and a machine to sanitize your hands. In 80% of places you WILL have a temperature checked, 40% will make you fill out a form for contact tracing.
Failure to do any of the above will result in a loud (and embarrassing) “EXCUSE ME MS...SANITIZE PLEASE” and in 10 minutes you will get a WA message from your mom asking why you didn’t sanitize cos BIM is a small island and somebody there know you. Im all you’re not getting in.
In some (esp govt) buildings where doing business at a counter is common, there are persons there to wipe down chairs/counters/tables after every visitor/use. Every time. Imagine that at...BOA or the DMV.
And don’t even think about not wearing a mask. That’s not even a question. It’s a behavior willingly done and socially enforced. There is no “but I can’t breathe/I want to see mgr” happening. Everybody in a mask, in 80°+ heat and humidity. All compliant.
This isn’t driven by fear. Some is out of a drive to get back to being COVID free last summer (b4 holiday visitors, locals relaxed and a shitshow ensued), but at the core there is a deep sense of social responsibility shared by all. A true “we in this together” attitude.
But it goes without saying, if there is one thing that WE* all have in common...we will stay clean. Chattel house to Shotgun to mansion we will out clean a virus and stay spotless. Know 👏🏾 that 👏🏾!
WE = Black ppl worldwide. ❤️
