[Controversial Hockey Thread]
I got bored and quickly decided to rank every Canadian team's depth. Without using any in-depth analytics, I made these rankings based off my own opinions. The lineups I used are what I believe the lines are going to be later in the season.
I used the following tier system to rank every forward line/defensive pairing/goalie tandem. Based off the tiers for every line, I am going to try predict the Canadian Division rankings after all 56 games are completed.
Montreal Canadiens: I honestly believe the Habs have the deepest roster in the Canadian division, the best defensively & the defence goalie tandem. Only question mark is that 3rd pairing, but apart from that, this Habs team is pretty steady everywhere.
Toronto Maple Leafs: This team is going to be heavily carried by their two top lines. Those two top lines are definitely the two best attacking lines in the division. Other than that, their forward depth and defence is still not the best.
Edmonton Oilers: This team is basically a worse Toronto Maple Leafs team. Their two top lines are HEAVILY carried by arguably the two best players in the NHL. The defence is a kind of a liability and their goalie situation is by far the worst in the division.
Vancouver Canucks: We all know pretty well that this team heavily downgraded over the offseason. There are many question marks coming into this season with this team. Will Hoglander & Juolevi be deal breakers? Is Hughes defending gonna improve? We'll see, but this is what I think
Ottawa Senators: This team is probably one of the worst teams in the NHL, but there are still many positives. This team is full of young talents that could surprise a team. With the addition of Matt Murray, expect this team to surprise teams with unexpected wins.
Winnipeg Jets: Two lines are very similar to the Toronto Maple Leafs, but their depth is a little disappointing. They have one of the best goalies in the league, which is great way to make up for the lack of depth, but in the long-run, this team will have many off-nights.
Calgary Flames: In my opinion, this is the second deepest team in the division. Those top 3 lines are going to cause havoc to any team in the division. Not only do their have, in my opinion, one of the best top pairings in the division, but their goaltender situation is fantastic
With that all said and done, I believe this will be the final rankings based off the tier list I made. I tried to be as unbiased as possible when making this, and instead of yelling at me with your graphs, just realize this: I don't care!!!
