I've also identified different types of league-mates throughout the years and I tend to sort those folks into categories. Here are a few....
“Veteran Magnet” – Living on a steady diet of aging vets.
There are usually one or two owners in every league just waiting to capitalize on the depreciating value of aging star players.
"Evel Knievel” – League-mates who buy risk. Hands down the most important type of owner to have in any league. Important because this person is a true trade catalyst when everyone else is running scared in the opposite direction.
“Fountain of Youth” – Some folks simply view veterans as a plague & apply ageism as an actual roster building process. These owners always have a young roster loaded w/promise, but often lack the consistent production to be a legacy contender.
Side notes for that type of league-mate. 1st, these folks have a tendency to give up on underachieving upside a little too quickly in order to pursue the next best thing. 2nd, dynasty players always looking toward the future will usually pay a premium for draft picks ever year.
The “Brick Wall” – League mates who are impossible to trade with. Generally there are 2 reasons for this - some folks have to win every deal by a substantial margin. Other folks simply love their squad “as is” and don’t want to entertain negotiations under any circumstances.
“No Ripples on the Pond” – League-mates who hate risk. Folks who will bail and sell short at the first sign of trouble either on or off the field. Great to have on speed dial if you're not risk averse.
"The Perfect Lineup in May" – Folks who can't sleep at night until they lock in the perfect line up top to bottom as soon as possible.
"The Shark” – The respected league-mates who are shrewd, savvy, active, knowledgeable, crafty and relentless. And yes, you probably think this song is about you......
“Captain Ahab” – The Rogue Owner. Always zigging when most would zag, these folks have a unique style/agenda w/little concern for player values or group think mentality. Almost impossible to profile, these league-mates leave a lot of collateral damage to the best laid plans.
Ultimately I'm just sharing notebook stuff that hopefully you'll enjoy. Again, I've covered notebook stuff in greater detail at Dynasty League Football back when I was writing regularly. Can't say enough good things about the folks at @dlf & the quality of content they produce.
Anyway....apologies for the long winded threads if you're skimming your TL and annoyed w/all the notebook talk. If anyone does have questions...reach out.
Had the wrong link in the tweet I deleted. All my old stuff can be found at @DLFootball (Dynasty League Football). Can't say enough good things about the folks there and the content they produce every day.
You can follow @Ciga_FF.
Tip: mention @twtextapp on a Twitter thread with the keyword “unroll” to get a link to it.
