Lol (if it weren’t horrific) at everyone replying saying Sumption simply reflecting standard policy approach. It’s thankfully rare that policymakers depend on premise ‘all lives don’t have equal value’—even those making (vile) allocation trade-offs on grounds of desert/efficiency
Take classic example: thinking it’s right to save your own kid over some other kid does NOT equate to thinking all people’s lives aren’t equally valuable. Think about it. (But I’m gonna leave this discussion now because it makes me sad & angry when people don’t get these things)
