2/ The activist base does NOT consist of globalization's "losers", the "white working-class." If that were the case, then there would be a simple, linear correlation between populist voting behavior and income level. There is NOT.
3/ There is by now a TON of quantitative social science showing that education is a better predictor than income. And a good deal of journalism and sociology showing that the activists are less educated white people who are relatively well-off. Contractors, small business people.
