I am not unaware that people may view Scotland leaving the UK with the same horror as I feel about having been dragged out of the EU. However, as was the case with the referendum in 2014, I cannot abide being ruled by the current party in Westminster. They do not serve or care.

Better together. A lie. Only way to stay in the EU is to vote no. A lie. Brexit. A shambles. No accountability for law breaking, instead seeking to do it. Aiming to take powers away from the devolved governments. Abolishing scrutiny committees designed to hold them to account.

It's jobs for the boys. Money for your friends. Bullying is fine. Bribes are fine. One rule for them, another for you. It's a government of cruelty. It's a government of embarrassment. A union flag put in place of where intelligence or decency should be.

Maybe not everyone in the party is awful but too many are. Those in the cabinet prove their ineptitude daily. The pandemic has truly put the incompetence and cronyism all out there for all to see. Every day a lie, a u turn, a stupid policy (today it's statues!). I am ashamed.

I am ashamed to be aligned to that government just by virtue of existing in the UK. If Scottish independence can sever that connection with a toxic and actively damaging government, I fully support it.

I struggle so much every day being made to feel like I am any part of a country where Boris Johnson and Jacob Rees-Mogg are holding court waffling on about happy British fish as children starve. As the covid death toll hits 1500 a day and they prioritise deportations and statues.

It's just really sad. I have never not felt British but it's a sullied word when I speak it now. I cringe. I have cringed at borders as officials have laughed at my passport for being "a brexit one". Unprofessional of them but I get it, I do. Something needs to change.

This is a ramble. I just wanted to acknowledge that I am aware me posting about independence is potentially problematic to many. Be assured, I have nothing against you! I just want distance from Tories and Westminster and freedom for Scotland to make its own choices or errors.

Anyway, I don't mean to upset anyone. It's not my intention. I just struggle with such a cruel government and hope for better.
I am going to go play Animal Crossing. If I am lucky Phil will be singing at the plaza outside resident services.
