4 people in total were disqualified on the first day of the standardized national university exams around Japan. One was kicked out after refusing to cover his nose with his face mask, after the 7th request to do so. https://www.tokyo-np.co.jp/article/80477
There is a good summary of why this student was disqualified. The guidelines for the testing centers clearly stated that masks should be worn properly, and there were provisions for ppl who couldn’t wear masks for medical reasons etc to take the exam. https://news.yahoo.co.jp/byline/ishiwatarireiji/20210118-00218211/
And on the sixth warning they were told “if you don’t comply next time you will be disqualified”. The student still didn’t. Weird. Maybe they were looking for an excuse not to take the exam
(pure speculation)

The not-masked person was a man in his 40s. He was warned about his mask during breaks too, besides the in-test warnings. Then he locked himself in a bathroom, pretending to have coughing fits. The police were called to get him out. https://mainichi.jp/articles/20210118/k00/00m/040/175000c.amp
Background: in Japan it’s very unusual for someone in their 40s to take the university entrance exams. So there’s speculation as to whether he was really there to take the exams or had some other motive. Hopefully the other test takers weren’t adversely affected.

Not verifiable, but this is purported to be the account of someone who was sitting diagonally in front of the nose-out-of-mask man.
- The man was filming the exam staff with his phone while they were cautioning him https://twitter.com/suizou/status/1351093260190625792

- when told he could take the test w/o mask in another room he refused
- after the 6th request he refused again & started playing a song by Yutaka Ozaki on his phone
- He became physically agitated, lying across chairs etc, forcing the other exam takers to move to another room

I’m taking a wild guess that this was the Yutaka Ozaki song he played, titled “For Me To Be Me”.
