Early Sunday AM Texan status THREAD:

1. While, yes, I’d had a few glasses of wine, I stand by what I tweeted last night ... if Deshaun wants to sit out, then let him sit for ‘21, trade JJ, take your 0-16 hickey w/ a trash QB, get the 1st overall pick and trade Deshaun in ‘22.
2. TO BE CLEAR, I want Deshaun Watson here for the next 15 years (and 15 hours, days, and months) ... that must be reiterated. I do not want him traded. But he controls whether or not he withholds his services. IF he does, you gotta have a plan. That would be my plan.
3. This is important for everyone who is gonna mark out for the next tweet from someone like Andre Johnson the other day — you can pump your fists at those tweets all you want (hell, I did). It’s very evident this Easterby/Cal situation will not get resolved via social media....
.... they’ve shown they’ll just wait out the digital noise and brush it off as either irrelevant or persecution. So if, say, JJ Watt were to tweet something like Dre did, be prepared for it to solve nothing. ZERO.
4. So what WILL solve this, you ask? Just my opinion, as a former sales guy — whoever talks some sense into Cal has to do it face to face and get resolution then and there. That’s what Easterby has had. Access and immediate influence.... that’s what the other side must have...
.. so, is that JJ going to meet with the McNairs? (And yes, that meeting MUST include Hannah and especially Janice) I don’t know. Maybe. There’s a chance JJ may already have moved on. Or look at this as someone else’s battle to go win. Who could blame him? I don’t know....
... it may take some of Bob McNair’s old business associates to step in and respectfully ask Cal “What are you trying to accomplish here? Because you’re taking this team down a dark road”. That could work. I have to imagine Jamey Rootes’ treatment is resonating w some of them.
On that note, I’ve heard some try to explain Cal’s protection of Easterby as a product of Cal being “loyal”. What’s happening is the OPPOSITE of loyalty. Putting one employee who appears to be bad at his job ABOVE everyone else is the OPPOSITE of loyalty. That must be pointed out
But make no mistake, we are at DEFCON 1. It didn’t have to be this way. The fix is easy to execute but enlightening the one person who can go do it seems impossible right now.
And by the time season ticket holders and suite holders are able to make their voice heard it will be too late. Now we just sit terrified that they will botch this head coach hire, in both choice and execution. What a place to be. Ok, going for a walk. Love you all!
