I offer one Vilva leave, which has three petals which represent three gunas- Sathva, Rajas and Tamas; representing Lord Shiva with three eyes; three stages of life- childhood, youth and aged; destroys the sins of three births to Lord Shiva. 2/n
By identifying with each God either one flower or tree or both, Sanatana Dharma has shown the path of Natural Living- Living with Nature. In our culture , pancha Bhootha, is highly respected and revered. 3/n
While living in the natural surroundings, the Seers and Sages, lead a life in harmony with nature.
त्रिदलं means three petals, meaning Vilva with three petals. There Vilva with three or five or seven or nine petals. Normally to Lord Shiva, archana is done with three leaves. 4/n

त्रिगुणाकारं - three Gunas. Here it means Satwa, Rajas and Tamas.
The characteristics of an individual is determined by the predominance of the quality.
Satwa means pious, quiet nature or thinking nature or a type of intellectual being. 5/n

On the other hand, Rajas means action oriented or pulsating with high energy or wanting to do something always. There are people, who cannot keep quiet. They need to do something or other. 6/n
The tamas quality is that one full of passive nature, very slow in acting or doing anything which is of destructive nature or in common parlance, we can say lazy to do anything- procrastination 7/n
Some times, a person with one quality dominant, may see a quality of other two gunas reflecting in his or her actions for a moment or two.

The third eye, the invisible one, represents knowledge- The knowledge is like a fire, destroys Avidhya. The fire not only destroys, but also it purifies. The fire is one of the five elements.

By just offering a Vilva with three petals with devotion , Lord Siva takes care of three periods of time- destroys papa of three past births, present life in three stages of life. 10/n
