Tips and reminders for online learning in university/college/school because I'm starting my third online semester of med school tomorrow and I need to get things together.
This is a thread.
This is a thread.
1. Treat online learning as real learning
As in, go to all classes and be as serious as you always are during normal classes. Be serious in class, during studying and doing assignments.
Try having an overview of the course: list of lectures + important dates. This rlly helps.

2. Schedule.
Know all your class times and go to them on the right time, even if it's recorded.
I use google calendar because it's easy to sync across multiple apps + you get notifications.
Have a routine that you can stick to: e.g: wake up early, breakfast, class, study

3. Try taking things day by day
For me every day I have a fresh to-do list that I put on my Todoist app and I work through it until night. I am learning to not beat myself up if I can't finish everything on my list hahah.
Rules of using a to-do list: BE KIND AND REALISTIC

4. Setup proper location
If you can have a space that is designed for work only, that would be really helpful. If you can't, just make sure you have all you need. Apa yang ada je.

5. Have a study system.
Not sure why but the content of the semester can be x2 as overwhelmong as it already is. So coming up with a system that works and sticking with it really helps.
e.g: Listen to lecture while annotating slides -> Make mind map/notes on Notion -> Anki

6. Excercise and take walks for your sanity
Stay sane. I learned the hard way that you can't sit on your table for 12 hours without losing your mind. Go outside, take a walk, workout if you want to stay inside. Get moving and sweating like a normal human being should, every day.

7. Social Interaction (with your coursemates)
I sympathise those who live alone at student accommodations. Try to have people to talk with, either about school or just fun things. Even if youre an introvert, you do need some social interaction to stay sane.

8. Just mentally be ready for the worst: loads of sudden quizzes and assignments than usual.
(If you anticipate it, it's less taxing hahah)
You can complain about it but it's still going to happen. So expect the worst and do your best regardless.

9. Take study breaks
Try Pomodoro (25min work 5min break)
Set a timer.
Whatever it is, take study breaks. And going on the phone does not count. Do anything that you love or would recharge you.
e.g take a walk, get a snack, talk to someone, just nap and relax, read a book

10. Eat and snack healthy
If you struggle with not eating enough, get a tracker. Make sure you have breakfast and a heavy meal once a day. You need the energy.
Try to consume more of the food that helps you to get more brain energy, be mindful.

11. Don't rely on motivation, rely on purpose and discipline.
If you keep depending on motivation, you'll only get a few good days in a year & lots of regrets. Have a clear purpose and vision of why you're studying so you can come back to it and base your discipline on

12. Make it physically easier for yourself to focus and work hard
Put your phone in a separate room if you have to.
Put your laptop next to your bed for morning classes if you need to.
Give yourself rewards every night after a long day, who cares

13. Take care of your solat and ibadah.
Jaga barakah menuntut ilmu. Respect your lecturers. Be honest and true in exam conditions even if it's normalised.
Sementara kita ada kat rumah, we can try to add amalan or istiqamah with something we wanted to do for a while

14. Always be on top of your game.
But if it gets our hand, be kind to yourself. Forgive yourself. And just do what you can instead of regretting what you should have done.
Control the controllable, which is what you can do NOW

15. Lay down on the complaining (sikit2 boleh lah)
Focus your energy on things you can control and spend less time focusing on things you can't control.
It's better for you mentally as well.
Acknowledge that it's hard but don't let it dictate you.

The majority of the tips focus and emphasize on sanity. Because it's easier to lose your mind and feel like everything is not real during online learning, at least for me.
Remember that you need your sanity and wellbeing to function as the best version of yourself

And remember that we are held accountable for our efforts, not the outcome. So whatever happens, keep going and giving your all. Your efforts count, ada barakah kat situ my mum said.
Kalau kita dah usaha, doa dan tawakkal, Allah takkan sia-siakan kita yakinlah.

That's all I have for now, we'll see what I learn this semester hahah.
I wish you all the best for your studies, wherever you are. May Allah ease.
(p.s// i'll attach few threads i made on studying and apps last year down here)

17. Seek help if you dont understand. Don't let yourself stay in the dark.
Email your lecturers to ask question since we cant ask them after class like always.
Ask friends to help you, jgn malu
And utilize youtube + blogs that could make you understand what you learn better.
