This is gonna be a v long thread while I try to explain this from a Southeast Asian perspective.

There is 100% a problem with antiblackness in Asian countries. But please understand that for this situation, it's not really her race that's the problem - it's her mindset. https://twitter.com/bambiplushie/status/1350683064750379009
And us Southeast Asians living here are SO wary abt Western exploitation. Just a day or two ago Malaysians are mad that a white Dutch woman was trying to gentrify our cultural wear and exploit it for her own profits - every Malaysian made it a point to basically shame her for it
In July 2020 a yoga retreat organized by white people was cancelled & its organizer deported (?) amidst outrage from local Indonesians, angry that they would do such a thing in the middle of a fucking pandemic.

I promise you race has nothing to do with it, but it has EVERYTHING
to do with a harmful mentality that so many Western expats hold for some reason: that our countries, our cultures, our resources, are free game for you to exploit however you please just because you get to live here, on the cheap, because your dollar stretches wider.
And it's not solely the fault of these expats, but also government policies in place that give rich (Western) foreigners so much more freedom while restricting much needed resources from locals. Govts should try to balance that out so that they can ensure foreign investment
comes in and gives a positive impact on the economy without sacrificing the local people it's supposed to serve. From the replies and tweets I've read today, Bali and its locals are suffering from that imbalance.
She doesn't deserve the sudden wave of antiblackness for that, however, & I want ALL my fellow Southeast Asians who are also angry abt this to check your behavior before speaking about this. No more "pulling the race card" comments. You KNOW your country is antiblack by default.
These are my thoughts for now. If there's more, and if you want to discuss more, I'd be happy to sit down and talk about it with you. I apologize if my language here comes off as too blunt or too insensitive.
Also maybe it's just me but I kind of think it's highly irresponsible to promote moving to a country that's highly queerphobic. You do realize Indonesia is violently queerphobic right
I say this with the fullest knowledge that the US, for all its posturing about LGBTQ rights, isn't any better in that regard either

But there are plenty more countries that are more queer-friendly than fucking Indonesia....
The racist whites have started finding this thread so I'm gonna leave you with this: if you see some white chud being racist in your replies, block and report them, pals.
My mentions are full of notifications from this so for my own mental health's sake I need to mute this. My DMs, however, are open for discussion if anyone's interested.
