The more stretched and overwhelmed hospitals are with numbers of patients, who are very unwell and often unstable, the more our ability to provide the care we would ideally give is gradually undermined. Also #NHS staff are gradually bowing and breaking under the pressure. When ICU or ward staff are working in an unfamiliar clinical area, shorted-staffed, or with more/ higher acuity patients, & dealing with death & grief frequently, how can we expect them to be unaffected?
Shout out to all my medical, nursing, AHP, and redeployed colleagues including the amazing @WifeThompson for doing such an incredible job under untenable circumstances. Let's pray we never get close to this again. It's a privilege to work for #NHS, but atm a terribly heavy one.
