I'm seeing lots of SLT shaming tweets regarding the monitoring of remote learning & heads should trust their teachers.

This misses the point.

It's akin to saying teachers should just trust their children are ok in themselves & making progress.

They wouldn't. They'd check-in.
Learning - whether it's our colleagues or our children - is too important to just trust it is happening.

'Monitor' can have negative connotations. But it is a check in, not an exercise in shaming.

Of course, I'm going to monitor!
Do I trust teachers are doing their best? Absolutely. They're fab.

Do I trust there is alignment across school & every class' learning is the best it can be considering the huge change at short notice? No. We're all human and drop balls - especially when juggling so many.
It's ok to drop balls, but my job is to spot them and throw them back in the game. Those balls are too important to leave lying the floor. I don't want people tripping over them.

Of course I'm going to monitor. The stakes are too high to leave it to chance.
So, #edutwitter, can we stop trying to earn brownie points by taking cheap shots at colleagues who monitor online learning?

Thanks. I work so much better when my blood's not boiling. 😁🙌

I'd like to end the rant by genuinely checking everyone is ok x Look after each other.
