Review time. Where do I begin? I have so many points to raise so strap yourselves in. Mega thread inbound.
I'll start with player ratings.
Mendy - Decision making is off. Lacking in confidence hugely, start of the season he was great. Didn't concede but looks shaky.
1/20
Chilwell - Good going forwards & better than recent LB's. Sometimes caught out.
T. Silva - Other than a few minor things he is exceptional & its no wonder we brought him in. 36 y/o & looks unreal.
Rudiger - Pretty solid. Don't want to over criticise, still mistakes there.
2/20
Azpilicueta - I love him, he has been a great servant to this club. I hope RJ is fit next game though. He gets roasted far too often for pace & is very easily exploited. Only positive is he communicates in-game well & tries to organise.
3/20
Jorginho - Why does he get a start? Other than experience he offers nothing to this team. FL clearly picked him for experience alone but he really brought nothing. He gets bullied often. He has no pace. He offers nothing going forwards, passes backwards & sideways.
4/20
Kovacic - He confuses me greatly. When he 1st came I was not keen on him. He had many games like this. He does not work well with another defensive midfielder at all. Last season he was very good at times but I really question his place in this team so far. Sorry.
5/20
Mason Mount - WHY DO PEOPLE HATE HIM? MOTM ALL DAY. I have so much to say, 3 tweets worth at least. He is integral to everything we do. This is how I see it. Sometimes he is overplayed & gets tired. Also he needs to improve on his goal numbers to really become top class.
6/20
I'm not finished. They are his only 2 negatives. Do you know why he starts most games? Because he makes everything tick. He runs the hardest, works the most, creates the most & drives us on. Not only that but he scores in big moments. I point to last season & today...
7/20
As a point of reference. Mason Mount fights for the shirt & every single one of the players should look at him as an example. If Mount scored more often he would be regarded as one of if not the most sought after players in Europe. That's no lie. He's 22. Brilliant today.
8/20
Ziyech - This will be unpopular. Luxury player. He has a wand of a left foot yes. BUT he looks lazy when tracking back. I find him anonymous very often & wastes possession. He can dribble & shoot but I haven't seen enough for us yet. I hope he improves.
9/20
Pulisic - This injury must have had a real impact. Pulisic pre-injury was excellent. I want him back. Confidence is a big thing for a lot of the squad right now.
Giroud - I get why he started. Started well but never really got into it.
10/20
Subs -
Abraham - people go to town on this lad far too often. Still a lot to improve. Touch was often heavy. Heading needs to improve. Still work to do but has things to offer.
CHO - Should have started. Its that simple. Changed the game, oozed confidence & class.
11/20
Werner - This is worrying. Confidence is below zero. I am willing & wanting him to score that 1 on 1 & he misses. Its not just the misses, Its the heavy touches. He needs more than 1 to break this duck. He needs to embody FL a bit & stay after training to work harder.
12/20
Thats my take on the team individually. I want to go into Frank a bit too.
Frank Lampard - I will back him till the end. Today actually proved a lot of what he has said time after time (with a caveat). Individuals let this team down...
13/20
Look at it. Really look at it. Werner is getting SITTERS & missing. That's on him. Keepers are making mistakes that's on them. Defenders make misplaced passes or are out of position - That's on them. Midfielders take too much time & get overrun- That's on them.
14/20
Its easy to blame the players to defend the manager but look at a lot of the games we've lost & the goals we conceded or goals we didn't finish. Its clear as day. Today we won thanks to the 1 player who people call his 'son'. This isn't the 1st time this has happened.
15/20
So then you think well what are his tactics. He is meant to manage them etc. He does. Clearly in training they perform & then on the day they let the team down & he gets the stick. He is not exempt from blame though. This is my caveat which links to the Fulham game.
16/20
He picks these players. The same ones that let him down. He made the wrong selection against Fulham. Which he rectified with his subs. AC, Jorgi, Kepa, Alonso are all examples of this in the past. They let him down yet got picked again. So he is not exempt from criticism.
17/20
But look at the good things he has done. James, Mount, CHO & Abraham are all 1st team regulars. He has improved them all & rarely let us down. He gets accused of being tactically naive but this is false. Defensively we've improved. Set pieces we've improved.
18/20
Then in the Fulham game he changed the 4-3-3 to a 4-4-2 because he realised that it wasn't working as it was. When we changed it we looked better. He made the right subs & we won the game. He is inexperienced & makes mistakes but we all do. He is learning on the job.
19/20
I'll wrap up with this. After reading all that you will be thinking 'Did we lose?'
NO we did not. So be happy. We needed a win & got one. We changed things round in the game & looked better. Big game Tuesday - no time for slacking. I'm happy. Up the Chels! đź’™ #CFC
